Moisette Intonya Sweat, JD, MBA, managing principal and founder at Sweatism Consulting LLC and chair of Friends of Moisette Tonya Sweat, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal services.
With a decade of experience to her credit, Ms. Sweat has built a successful career in legal services, specializing in federal employment law and general law. She is the founder and managing principal of Sweatism Consulting LLC, a role she has held since 2014. In this capacity, she handles multiple client cases, with a focus on expediting legal research and managing respondent core actions. She is also frequently invited to speak to various community groups on topics such as Black history, legal history, financial literacy, criminal law, and government services, and serves as the chair of the Moisette Tonya Sweat organization. Her experience also includes serving as chief executive officer of Sweatism LLC from 2014 to 2017, where she led the company in providing legal and consulting services. From 2010 to 2014, she was the director of consumer compliance policy and outreach at the National Credit Union Administration, following her role as a staff attorney at the same organization from 2005 to 2010. Earlier in her career, she worked as a law clerk for the South Carolina Department of Transportation from 1995 to 1997 and as a judge advocate for the United States Air Force from 1997 to 2004.
Ms. Sweat is a lifetime member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, and holds memberships with the South Carolina Bar, the Maryland State Bar Association, and the District of Columbia Bar. She has also been vice president of the South County Economic Development Association since 2020, director and treasurer of the Manning Overlook Homeowners Association since 2014. Additionally, she ran as a candidate for the office of county executive for Prince George’s County, Maryland, in 2022. Her previous roles include board member of the Coalition for Public Safety Training in Schools, Inc. from 2019 to 2021, vice president of the Maryland PTA from 2019 to 2021, and president of the PTSA, Oxon Hill HS Clippers Inc. from 2017 to 2019. Additionally, she was the director of YoungLivesDC from 2007 to 2010, is a dedicated supporter of veterans’ organizations, alumni associations, and children’s charities, and has also worked as a financial regulator from 2005 to 2014.
In light of her impressive achievements, Ms. Sweat has been honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Maryland PTA in 2020, the Presidential Scholar recognition from the University of Maryland Global Campus in 2019, and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal from the United States Air Force in 2004 and from the U.S. Department of Defense in 2001. Laying a solid educational foundation, she earned an associate degree in business administration and management from the College of Southern Maryland in 2018, a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of South Carolina in 1994, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland Global Campus in 2019 and a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law in 1997. She holds bar accreditation with the Maryland Court of Appeals, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of South Carolina, and the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Additionally, she earned a certificate in business management from the College of Southern Maryland in 2018.
Reflecting on her path, Ms. Sweat takes great pride in her involvement in inaugurating George W. Bush as the 42nd President of the United States and her contribution to formulating the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010, as part of a prominent think tank. She attributes her success to her humility, a strong work ethic, and an unwavering sense of gratitude. In the coming years, she plans to work toward retirement but also aspires to seek public office again. Her goal is to make a meaningful impact on her community by working to strengthen it and ensure greater financial security for its residents. In advising aspiring professionals, she emphasizes the importance of self-awareness, understanding one’s character, and familiarizing oneself with the rules of the game. One of her favorite mantras, “I’ll beat you every day of the week,” reflects the dedication and determination she believes are necessary to excel as a lawyer.
