Mary Elizabeth Manfreda, assistant United States attorney at the United States Attorneys’ Offices, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in criminal prosecution.

Drawing on more than 20 years of expertise in law, Ms. Manfreda has served as an assistant United States attorney since 2016. In this role, she handles status hearings, sentencing hearings, plea negotiations and full trials. Ms. Manfreda has collaborated with both local law enforcement in Washington, D.C., and various federal agencies. She has extensive experience drafting search warrants and pursuing challenging cases, including trials related to homicides and gang activities. Prior to this, Ms. Manfreda held the position of assistant attorney general of the juvenile section of the public safety division for the District of Columbia, and the child support division of the same office before that. Her career began as an associate at Patrick J. Christmas & Associates P.C. and a law clerk for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

Ms. Manfreda’s achievements were born of her academic journey. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in psychology and human development from the University of Scranton in 1997. Subsequently, Ms. Manfreda earned a Juris Doctor in criminal law and prosecution from the Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America in 2002. She has been admitted to the bar in Maryland, Texas and the District of Columbia. Ms. Manfreda has received many accolades throughout her career, including a Medal of Merit from the Metropolitan Police Department in 2018 and Special Acts Awards from the United States Attorneys’ Offices in 2019, 2021 and 2022.

Outside of her professional life, Ms. Manfreda finds fulfillment by playing tennis, traveling, going to the beach and cooking, especially when she can do so with friends and family. As she moves forward in her career, she hopes to continue prosecuting complex cases. Ms. Manfreda would like to take part in large-scale investigations, with the end goal of having a significant impact on making communities safer.
