Steven M. Taber, partner at Leech Tishman, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal services.
With nearly a decade of experience to his credit, Mr. Taber has established a successful career in legal services. He currently excels as a partner at Leech Tishman, a position he has held since 2018. In this role, he focuses on Ford cases in the United States Court of Appeals, addressing aviation noise and emissions and providing counsel to an air cargo company. His prior experience includes serving as counsel at Leech Tishman from 2017 to 2018 and as the owner and attorney at Taber Law Group P.C. from 2010 to 2017. He was also a senior litigation counsel at Ameriquest Mortgage from 2005 to 2007, attorney advisor at the Federal Aviation Administration from 2003 to 2005, and assistant attorney general at the Office of the Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul from 1998 to 2000. He also held roles as a partner at Ross & Hardies from 1989 to 1998, an associate at Burditt Bowles and Radzius Ltd. from 1988 to 1989, and an associate at Carlton Fields PA from 1986 to 1988.
Mr. Taber is a member of the American Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He also dedicates his time as a board member for design thinking at University Extension Professional Studies and an advisory board member at Oceanic Defense. He was also a chevalier at Allen & Lichman LLP from 2007 to 2010, a volunteer with the Peace Corps, and serves on the board of directors for AltadenaWILD and the legal advisory committee for Quiet Communities. In light of his impressive undertakings, he was honored as one of the Top Attorneys by Pasadena Magazine in 2022.
Mr. Taber laid a solid educational foundation, earning a Bachelor of Arts in political philosophy from Michigan State University in 1981, a diploma from Greenhills School in 1977, a Master of Arts in political science from Rackham Graduate School at the University of Michigan in 1986, and a Juris Doctor from The University of Michigan Law School, also in 1986. Reflecting on his path, he takes great pride in his involvement in the Petersen Sand and Gravel case during his tenure as an associate. Additionally, he worked on a significant capital punishment case early in his career, involving two brothers who were granted a new trial after the defense team proved they were in Chicago at the time of the murder, not in Florida where the crime occurred. The prosecution’s failure to provide crucial evidence was key to the defense’s success.
Mr. Taber attributes his success to his ability to think creatively, a skill he believes is often undervalued in the legal profession. In his view, thinking outside the norm and devising innovative solutions to complex problems have been key factors in his achievements. In the coming years, he has his sights set on retirement, with a goal to leave a lasting impact by serving as a valuable mentor to younger attorneys. In his personal time, he enjoys landscape and nature photography, hiking, camping, backpacking, and traveling.
