Jerry A. McDonald, Esq., owner and attorney at Law Office of Jerry A. McDonald PLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal services.

With over two decades of experience to his credit, Mr. McDonald has established a successful career in law, specializing in family law, business law, estate planning, probate, and criminal law. He currently excels as the owner and attorney of the Law Office of Jerry A. McDonald PLC, a position he has held since 2002. Previously, he worked as a business consultant for over five years and as an engineer at various defense companies. In the military, he served in the United States Navy for seven years.

Mr. McDonald is also a dedicated member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and has served as a council member for the City of Chanhassen for 18 years and as a planning commissioner for the city for four years. His volunteer efforts include portraying Santa Claus for Breakfast with Santa, an event organized by the Rotary Club of Chanhassen. He is also the chairman of the board for SouthWest Transit, a public transportation agency serving the southwestern suburbs of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area, a past member of the SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce, a regional organization dedicated to supporting local businesses and fostering economic growth in the SouthWest Metro area through networking, advocacy, and community engagement, and an active participant in Rotary International. a global service organization that brings together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian services, promote peace, and advance goodwill around the world.

Laying a solid foundation for his success, Mr. McDonald earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical and electronics engineering from Western Kentucky University in 1979, a Master of Business Administration from Xavier University in 1985, and a Juris Doctor from Mitchell Hamline School of Law in 2002. He was admitted to the Minnesota Bar in 2002. In light of his impressive undertakings, he received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Rotary Club of Chanhassen. Reflecting on his career, he took a government course that explored the Constitution, governance, and operational mechanisms. His interest in these subjects stemmed from seeing them as solutions for fostering communal unity and positively influencing the local environment. He initially pursued a master’s in business administration and began working for small businesses. During this time, he found himself frequently collaborating with lawyers on legal matters, which inspired him to enter the legal field himself. He returned to law school, recognizing that law, like engineering, is about solving problems and making things work.

Mr. McDonald attributes his success to his ability to stay organized, pay close attention to detail, and always put the clients first, saying that sometimes people lose sight of the purpose of being a lawyer, which is to serve those in need. In the coming years, he plans to work toward retirement. When offering advice to aspiring professionals, he emphasizes that your career is not just about yourself but about helping others. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” he advises, noting that while this is a simple notion, the complexity of society requires a thoughtful approach to achieve it.
