Stewart C. Hudson, Esq., mediator and arbitrator at Stewart Hudson Mediation, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal services.
With four and a half decades of experience, Mr. Hudson has established a successful career in legal services, specializing in family mediation and criminal litigation. He currently serves as a mediator and arbitrator at Stewart Hudson Mediation, a role he has held since 2021. His career also includes serving as an administrative judge for the Army, Air Force, and Exchange Service for 18 years, as well as working as an investigator for the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia and with the Metropolitan Police Department for three years. Additionally, he served in the U.S. Army for four years. He is also a member of The Florida Academy of Professional Mediators, Inc., and volunteers as a mediator in Escambia and Santa Rosa, Florida. He is also involved with the Civil Air Patrol.
Laying a solid foundation for his future success, Mr. Hudson earned a Bachelor of Science in business management from the University of the District of Columbia in 1974. He also participated in the Air Force ROTC program at Howard University, where he attained the top position in his class that same year. He went on to earn a Juris Doctor from American University in 1977. He is admitted to the State Bar of Texas, the District of Columbia Bar, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the Supreme Court Bar.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Hudson is a three-time recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal and the Legend of Merit. He has also received a Certificate of Appreciation from the First Circuit Court and was a scholarship recipient at AIU. He attributes his success to his innate curiosity and passion for learning and finds the most rewarding part of his work to be achieving settlements and bringing parties together. Reflecting on his career, he recalls that he did not enjoy his first year of law school. He had a friend who was an attorney at the Public Defender Service who told him that practicing law was nothing like law school, which gave him motivation. His friend invited him to work with him to see what the practice of law was really like, and during this experience, he fell in love with the profession.
Mr. Hudson believes that “you’ll never go wrong doing the right thing,” using this principle as a driving force. He maintains that regardless of the outcome, if something is right, it will ultimately be good. He has always believed he possesses a sixth sense for investigation and that preparation is the key to success. In advising future professionals, he encourages them to find their niche and focus on areas of law that truly interest them. He advises against settling for a job just because it was offered, emphasizing the importance of pursuing one’s genuine interests. In the coming years, he aspires to sail more, complete a circumnavigation of the world, spend time golfing, and continue expanding his watch collection.
