Michael T. Meehan, Esq.

Title: President and Owner
Company: The Meehan Law Firm, NoCuffs
Location: Encino, California, United States

Michael T. Meehan, Esq., president and owner of The Meehan Law Firm, NoCuffs, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal services.

With nearly three decades of experience in legal services, Mr. Meehan is the President and Owner of The Meehan Law Firm, also known as NoCuffs, a role he has held since 2003. He oversees the work of other attorneys and ensures the team handles cases effectively. The Meehan Law Firm specializes in DUI defense in California. The firm offers expert legal representation to fight DUI charges, aiming to protect clients from license suspension and other severe penalties. They handle cases ranging from misdemeanor drunk driving to felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter. The firm emphasizes the importance of proper defense strategies, leveraging potential issues in police procedures and chemical tests to achieve successful client outcomes.

Prior to purchasing the firm, Mr. Meehan worked at the firm as an attorney for 17 years. Additionally, he spent four years working as a prosecutor in Los Angeles County and practiced law privately in Kentucky and Tennessee. Additionally, he served as a reserve deputy sheriff with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department from 1992 to 2000 and previously owned a hair salon business.

Laying a solid foundation for his future success, Mr. Meehan pursued his education at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1989, followed by a Juris Doctor at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles in 1995. Following these accomplishments, he was admitted to the California Bar and the United States District Court for the Central District of California, both in 1995, the Kentucky Bar in 1999, and the Tennessee Bar in 2005. Additionally, he is a member of the Los Angeles Criminal Law Bar Association.

A pivotal moment led Mr. Meehan to transition from law enforcement to the legal realm. While serving as a reserve sheriff for the Elliott County Sheriff’s Department, he responded to a domestic violence call where a woman attempted to stab him with a bayonet. Despite the severity of the crime, the woman received only one day in jail due to credit for time served. Outraged by this outcome, he decided to attend law school to become a prosecutor and eventually secured his first job as a prosecutor for Elliott County.

One of the highlights of Mr. Meehan’s career is receiving excellent results for his clients. One standout case involved an unreasonable prosecutor despite compelling evidence of his client’s innocence. He took the case to trial pro bono and successfully obtained justice for his client. In light of his impressive undertakings, he has accrued several accolades throughout his career, including being named to the Super Lawyers list for Southern California in 2023 and being recognized as one of the Top 100 Trial Attorneys in the United States in 2023. He attributes his success to his ability to listen to and understand different perspectives.

Looking ahead, Mr. Meehan aims to train the firm’s new attorneys to become proficient in defense. His goal is to create a cohesive team offering top-quality defense representation and mutual support. Offering advice to aspiring professionals, he emphasizes the importance of honesty and truthfulness in dealing with people. Treating everyone respectfully, regardless of their role, leads to better outcomes and reciprocal respect.
