Dedicating over four decades to the field of legal services, Ms. Gardner has served as the managing director and associate general counsel at JPMorgan Chase & Co. since 1992. In this role, she is the global practice head for the investment banking division of JP Morgan, managing a team of around 80 locally and abroad. Prior to this role, she was an attorney with Cahill, Gordon & Reindel from 1983 to 1992. Additionally, she has been a member of the Business Operating Committee for JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s Investment Bank and chairman of the FINRA Capital Markets Committee, both since 2024. She also gives back as a volunteer with the Brooklyn Shelter, working pro bono on immigration issues with JPMorgan Chase & Co., and is a member of the M&A Committee of the New York Bar Association, and the Antisemitism Planning Committee of JPMorgan Chase & Co. Prior to these accomplishments, she pursued an education at Amherst College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1980, followed by a Juris Doctor from New York University in 1983. She has also been admitted to the New York Bar Association.
Ms. Gardner has received several prestigious awards, including the Capital Market Awards and Honorary Woman Practitioner of the Year. She also takes great pride in her involvement in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives at JPMorgan Chase & Co., and her role in developing excellent lawyers while keeping clients out of trouble. She attributes her success to good judgment, practicality, people skills, and the ability to deliver tough answers in palatable ways, always seeking creative solutions. In the coming years, she plans to create a succession plan for retirement, engage in board work for charitable institutions, write a novel, and stay active with her community. Her advice to aspiring professionals includes embracing their unique style, building self-confidence, avoiding office politics, prioritizing responsiveness, and focusing on overarching goals for strategic success.
