Ian Dombroski, prosecutor with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal services and law enforcement.
With nearly three decades of experience, Mr. Dombroski has excelled in the fields of law and law enforcement. He is currently a prosecutor with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, a role he has held since 2022. In this position, he prepares cases for trial, interviews victims and witnesses, produces discovery, argues evidentiary motions, conducts trials, and trains newly hired lawyers. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Stevenson University since 2021, teaching criminal justice, law enforcement, criminal law, and procedure.
Mr. Dombroski also served in various capacities with the Baltimore Police Department. He retired as the commanding officer of the performance standards section of the Compliance Bureau, where he served from 2018 to 2022. His previous roles included commanding officer of the Special Investigation Response Team from 2016 to 2018, commanding officer of the Internal Affairs Section from 2015 to 2018, and area three commander in 2015. He also served as the district commander of the southern district from 2013 to 2015 and executive officer of the southern district from 2011 to 2013. Earlier in his career, he was a lieutenant, sergeant, detective, and officer with the Baltimore Police Department from 1997 to 2011 and began his career as a police officer trainee in 1997. Laying a foundation for his future success, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in physics from the College of the Holy Cross in 1997, followed by a Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2004.
Reflecting on his career path, Mr. Dombroski was motivated to secure a job quickly after completing his undergraduate studies in 1997, joining the joined the Maryland Police Corps. The program emphasized ethics, leadership, honesty, self-discipline, strength, agility, weapon tactics, and analytical abilities. Upon completing his training, he joined the Baltimore Police Department, where he found a passion for his work. After completing his law studies and passing the bar exam, he was promoted to sergeant.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Dombroski has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He received a Certificate of Recognition from the director of the FBI in 2018 for his team’s investigation of corrupt police officers. In 2011, he earned a Certificate of Recognition and Commendation from The Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Maryland for his role in launching the Violent Repeat Offenders Initiative. Additionally, he has received numerous unit citations and service commendations and was a nominee for Officer of the Year in 2022. He was also awarded the Bronze Star for Excellence for Meritorious Conduct and Law Enforcement Achievement by the Baltimore Police Department.
In the coming years, Mr. Dombroski hopes to leverage his extensive experience in law enforcement and his law degree to explore various opportunities within the state attorney’s office. He aims to impart his knowledge to aspiring law enforcement professionals and continues to strive for expertise in his current role. However, he remains open to considering new opportunities that may arise.
