Prior to this position, she had been active as a post-bar clerk with the District Attorney’s Office for the County of San Mateo, California in 2014, a deputy district attorney with the Napa District Attorney’s Office from 2015 to 2016, and a deputy district attorney with the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office from 2016 to 2019. She previously served as a law clerk and a certified law clerk with the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office between 2012 and 2014 as well as a certified law clerk in the Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office and a law clerk in the San Diego Attorney’s Office in 2013. She found further success as a law program facilitator with Fresh Lifelines for Youth in 2012 and a judicial extern to the Honorable Peter Manoukian of the Superior Court of California for the County of Santa Clara in 2012. Ms. Smith began her career at the University of California San Diego, working as a research assistant at the Autism Center of Excellence from 2008 to 2009 and a wellness peer educator at the Counseling and Psychological Services Center from 2008 to 2010.

To support her professional ambitions, Ms. Smith initially pursued an education at the University of California San Diego, from which she earned a Bachelor of Science in cognitive neuroscience with a minor in biology and psychology in 2010. She subsequently completed a legal internship with the Justice Corps in the Family Law Facilitator’s Office at the South County Courthouse from 2010 to 2011 and an investigative internship with the Multiple Conflicts Office with the Public Defender’s Office in 2011. She concluded her academic efforts at Santa Clara Law in 2014, graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. Following these accomplishments, Ms. Smith was drawn to her field by her strong desire to advocate for the victims of crimes within the public sector in addition to her passion for practicing in the courtroom.

Attributing her success to her resilience, her problem-solving mentality, and enduring and overcoming adversity throughout her life, Ms. Smith has been celebrated on numerous occasions, including recognition among the 40 Under 40 by the National Trial Lawyers between 2021 and 2024, as the Best Family Law Attorney by the National Trial Lawyers, among the 10 Best Criminal Defense Attorneys in San Jose by Forbes Advisor and as the Best Criminal Defense Attorney in San Jose, to name a few. Among the highlights of her career, she is proud to have garnered experience on both the prosecution and defense sides of the justice system, especially in proving the innocence of falsely accused clients. Looking toward the future, Ms. Smith hopes to advance in her career by becoming a certified criminal specialist and a certified family law specialist and aims to establish her own firm in the coming years.
