G. Barton Mowry, president at Maupin, Cox & LeGoy Attorneys at Law, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal services.

With nearly four and a half decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Mowry has carved out a distinguished career in legal services. Currently excelling as an attorney and certified public accountant (CPA) at Maupin, Cox & LeGoy Attorneys at Law since 1979, he specializes in estate planning, trust and estates, and advising high net worth individuals and families, including family trust companies. Prior to his current role, he was a CPA at PricewaterhouseCoopers from 1977 to 1979. He began his career as a staff CPA at Deloitte-Touche Certified Public Accountants from 1974 to 1976.

Laying a solid foundation for his future success, Mr. Mowry pursued an education at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting with honors in 1974. He continued his academic efforts at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where he earned a Juris Doctor with honors in 1979. Following these accomplishments, he concluded his studies with a Master of Laws in taxation law with honors from New York University School of Law in 1981. Additionally, he became a CPA in Nevada in 1976.

In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Mowry has maintained his involvement as a past chair of the Tax Section for the State Bar of Nevada, a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, and a member of the American College of Tax Counsel. Civically, he has served on the advisory board of the William A. Douglass Center for Basque Studies since 2012 and was a member of the board of trustees for Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada from 2009 to 2018, including serving as its president from 2016 to 2017. He has been involved with the Nevada Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America for 25 years and serves as an assistant scoutmaster for Troop 107.

In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Mowry was recognized as the recipient of the Lionel A. Racine Memorial Award for Best Academic Record at the New York University School of Law in 1981. He has been included in Best Lawyers in America since 1989 and has been named a Mountain States Super Lawyer.

Throughout his career, Mr. Mowry has had the privilege of handling a diverse array of intriguing cases. His professional experience has been enriched by these opportunities, and he remains grateful for the chance to have contributed to the resolution of complex legal issues. However, the true highlight of his career is his immense pride in his three accomplished children.

Mr. Mowry finds the most rewarding aspect of the law profession to be the genuine assistance he can provide to people in managing their business and personal affairs. In his practice, particularly in estate planning, he takes pride in helping clients organize their affairs to minimize family conflicts and mitigate the impact of wealth transfer taxes. Moreover, witnessing his daughter, now a fourth-year associate at his firm, continuing the legacy of providing valuable legal assistance further reinforces his sense of fulfillment and pride in his profession.

In the coming years, Mr. Mowry intends to continue his current professional pursuits, maintain his physical fitness and well-being, and travel. He also aims to allocate more time for family engagement. He envisions a future where he remains active and engaged, however, he does aspire to gradually slow down and delegate some tasks to younger colleagues or family members while maintaining oversight and client interaction.
