With nearly 20 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Deng has excelled as the senior associate general counsel for global legal strategies and policy for AbbVie Inc. since 2024. Prior to this position, she was active with AbbVie Inc. as senior counsel on operations, purchasing, and corporate affairs from 2019 to 2020, senior counsel on corporate governance in 2020, and associate general counsel on transactions from 2021 to 2024. She previously served as senior counsel for Goldwind USA in 2012 and an attorney-at-law with Bake & McKenzie from 2007 to 2019. She began her career as a clerk with the Antimonopoly Office of the Ministry of Commerce for the People’s Republic of China in 2006. Outside of her primary responsibilities, Ms. Deng works as a mentor and a member of the steering committee for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Deng pursued an education at Renmin University of China, from which she earned a Bachelor of Laws in 2004. She continued her academic efforts with a Master of Laws in economics laws at Peking University in 2006. She subsequently obtained a Master of Laws from the University of Chicago Law School in 2007. Following these accomplishments, Ms. Deng concluded her studies at Northwestern University in 2010, graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in commercial law in 2010.
Motivated by the opportunity to continuously learn about new issues and solve problems in her field, Ms. Deng has attributed her success to her insatiable curiosity, her unwavering commitment to expand her skill set, and her fearless attitude toward adapting to new environments. As a testament to her stellar endeavors, she has been recognized as an International Attorney Rising Star by Super Lawyers in 2017 and 2018. Among her many accomplishments, she is incredibly proud of mentoring the next generation of lawyers, as she is able to steer them in a positive direction. She is also grateful to be the mother to two wonderful children as well as the first attorney in her family. Looking toward the future, Ms. Deng hopes to partner with a prominent organization to extend her influence over future lawyers while establishing an international brand.
