Company: The Dispute Resolution Institute

Hon. A. Michael Snyder, retired mediator and arbitrator with The Dispute Resolution Institute, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law.
With 50 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Snyder has established a distinguished career in the field of law and legal services. He currently excels as a judge, neutral mediator, arbitrator, and discovery master at The Dispute Resolution Institute, a position he has held since 2012, while also serving as a professor of mediation at Temple University Beasley School of Law since 2011. In these roles, he leverages his extensive expertise to resolve complex legal disputes and educate future legal professionals. He pursued his education at Muhlenberg College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and government in 1971, followed by a Juris Doctor from Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law in 1974.
Mr. Snyder’s dedication to public service is evident through his numerous civic engagements. He has been a board member of the Good Shepherd Mediation Program since 2015, a trustee and former grants committee chair for the Philadelphia Bar Foundation since 2013 and has held leadership roles within the Philadelphia Bar Association, including serving as chancellor in 2020 and chancellor-elect since 1997. His contributions to the legal community have been recognized with several awards, including the Sir Francis Bacon Award from the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Committee on Alternate Resolution in 2023, the third-place award for Best Individual Mediator from The Legal Intelligencer in 2020, the Martha Hampton Award from the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association in 2020, and the Benjamin Leavy Community Service Award from the Jewish Law Society.
Mr. Snyder attributes his success to his love for writing, interest in logic, and desire to help people attain justice. Standout moments in his career include the Training and Use of Mediation Program for workers’ compensation judges and his efforts to keep the Philadelphia Bar Association active and connected during the pandemic. He implemented strategies such as weekly chat messages, a former chancellor advisory commission, and a diversity, equity, and inclusion forum. Looking ahead, he aims to continue his work and involvement in various entities and advance in leadership within the American Bar Association. His advice for aspiring professionals is to enter the legal field with a genuine desire to help others and seek justice.
