Michelle A. Liguori, partner at Ellis & Winters LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the legal field.

With 17 years of professional experience, Ms. Liguori has distinguished herself in the legal field, specializing in appeals, class actions, and other complex business disputes. Currently, she excels as a partner at Ellis & Winters LLP, a role she has held since 2022. In this capacity, she manages all aspects of litigation work, supervises other attorneys at the firm, and is actively involved with the firm’s class action blog, Best in Class. She also plays a pivotal role as the firm’s hiring partner and serves on the firm’s professional development committee.

Prior to her current role, Ms. Liguori was an associate attorney at the same firm from 2018 to 2022, where she developed a robust litigation practice focused on appeals and trial court litigation. During this period, she also enriched future legal minds as an adjunct professor at Duke University School of Law.

Ms. Liguori’s early career involved several significant positions, including working as a solicitor general fellow at the North Carolina Department of Justice from 2017 to 2018, where she handled civil and criminal appeals on behalf of the state. Her dedication to public service was further demonstrated during her tenure as a staff attorney and later a law clerk at the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, roles she held from 2014 to 2016. This was preceded by a year as a Fulbright fellow in Egypt—an experience that broadened her perspectives on international law and policy.

Before embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Liguori pursued rigorous academic studies. She began her education at Amherst College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies in 2006, and participated in coursework at IES Rome in 2005. She culminated her academic pursuits with a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 2012. Upon graduation, she gained admission to the bar in both New York and North Carolina and later became a board-certified specialist in appellate practice by the North Carolina State Bar.

Beyond her responsibilities within her practice, Ms. Liguori is a member of several prestigious legal associations and has served on various committees that influence the direction of legal standards and practices. Her leadership roles include serving as past CLE chair for the North Carolina Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Section Council and her involvement in the American Bar Association’s Class Actions and Derivative Suits Committee.

Ms. Liguori’s legal expertise and dedication have earned her multiple accolades, including recognition as part of North Carolina’s Business Legal Elite and Super Lawyers for both Appellate Practice and Commercial Litigation. These honors reflect her reputation as a top attorney in her field.

Attributing her success to the strong support from her family and the invaluable guidance from mentors, Ms. Liguori remains committed to her professional development and community involvement. Looking ahead, she is focused on expanding her appellate practice and class action litigation, aiming to take on greater challenges and increase her influence in the legal community.
