With 25 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Hoffman has excelled as a prosecuting attorney for the 46th Judicial Circuit of Indiana since 2019. In his role, he is responsible for overseeing 40 staff members, managing administrative and supervisory matters, determining how to charge high-profile cases, handling a portion of the office’s caseload personally, and maintaining involvement and engagement with local and state law enforcement and administrative agencies. His areas of expertise include homicide prosecutions, cases involving infants and children with head trauma abuse, evaluating cases involving legal insanity, and investigating police shootings.

Mr. Hoffman contributed to the 46th Judicial Circuit of Indiana as a law clerk from 2001 to 2003, a deputy prosecuting attorney from 2003 to 2011, and chief deputy prosecutor from 2012 to 2018. He began his career as an undergraduate intern for the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office in Muncie, Indiana in 1999. He was active as a CASA technician for the Lake County Juvenile Court of Crown Point, Indiana from 2000 to 2001.

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Hoffman pursued an education at Ball State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice & criminology and a Bachelor of Science in legal assistance in 2000. He concluded his studies at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, graduating with a Juris Doctorate in 2003. He has been admitted to practice law before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the Supreme Court of the United States, the State of Indiana, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Hoffman has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He contributed to the Regional Child Fatality Review Team and served as president and advisory board member of Delaware County Community Corrections. He was a member of the Indiana State Child Fatality Review Team, the Delaware County Prevention Council, and the Delaware County Child Protection Team. He sat on the advisory board of the Ball Memorial Hospital Hospice Program and the Delaware County Court Appointed Special Advocates.

In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Hoffman remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He was a member of the Association of Government Attorneys in Capital Litigation, the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, the National District Attorneys Association, the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council, the Association of Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Inc., and the Delaware County Community Corrections. Additionally, he maintained a membership with the American Legion Post 19, the Delaware County Justice Reinvestment Advisory Council, the High Tech Crimes Unit Committee, and the Juvenile Justice Committee with the Indiana Prosecuting Attorney’s Council. He served as vice president and later president of the Delaware County Community Corrections Advisory.

In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Hoffman has accrued several accolades throughout his career. In 2013, The Star Press selected him as a finalist for Person of the Year. He was presented with the Delaware County Prevent Child Abuse Award in 2012. In the immediate future, he intends to continue his work pursuing justice for crime victims and is considering writing about his career as a prosecuting attorney.
