In his role, his responsibilities include defending the United States government against those who are suing them and defending the Internal Revenue Service against those suing to overturn audit decisions. He began his career as a market analyst at MICA Realty Company from 2005 to 2009. He worked as a short sale coordinator at The Property Store from 2011 to 2012.
Mr. Bilmes continued his career as a research assistant at Wayne State University Law School in 2012. He established himself as a law clerk at Stillman Law Firm from 2012 to 2013. As an associate attorney, he contributed to Kalouris Law Firm from 2015 to 2018 and to Hecht Schondorf, LLC from 2018 to 2022.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Bilmes pursued an education at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in finance in 2009. He concluded his studies after three years at Wayne State University Law School, graduating with a Juris Doctorate in 2013. He has been admitted to practice law before the United States Tax Court and the Federal Court.
In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Bilmes remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has been a member of the Illinois State Bar Association since 2014. He has been an attorney since 2014 and worked primarily in family law and commercial litigation. After a time, he sought a professional change and was made aware of employment possibilities at the Internal Revenue Service. He has found this new role and organization to be a better fit for him.
Mr. Bilmes considers providing expert advice and successfully handling litigation for a prominent manufacturing company in Addison, Illinois, as his most notable career achievement. He advises those who are new to the field to find experienced attorneys and shadow them or enter a mentor-mentee relationship. In the immediate future, he hopes to become a great tax lawyer.
