Jeffrey D. Woolf, assistant general counsel at the Board of Bar Overseers, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal services.

With 49 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Woolf has excelled as assistant general counsel at the Board of Bar Overseers since 2013. He served as special assistant attorney general from 1995 to 2000. He established himself as a hearing officer with the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers from 2000 to 2005 before transitioning to the role of assistant bar counsel at the Office of the Bar Counsel from 2006 to 2012. He garnered a stellar reputation as a part-time teacher of legal ethics at the New England School of Law for three years. He found further success as an author and an editor.

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Woolf pursued an education at Yale University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English literature in 1968. He continued his academic efforts at Boston University, graduating with a Master of Arts in English language and literature in 1969. He concluded his studies at Boston University School of Law, obtaining a Juris Doctorate in 1974. Beyond his responsibilities within the field, he has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He co-authored and co-edited “Massachusetts Bar Discipline: History, Practice, and Procedure” in 2018.

In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Woolf remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He was a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board at the Boston University School of Law, the American Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Ethics Committee of the Boston Bar Association, the National Organization of Bar Counsel, the Executive Committee of the National Council of Lawyer Disciplinary Boards, BU Hillel, the Jewish National Fund, and the District of Columbia Bar. He held executive and leadership positions with the American Inns of Court and the St. John’s Preparatory School Fundraising Headmaster’s Council.

In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Woolf has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers and was presented with the Silver Shingle Award by Boston University in 2022. He was one of the lead counsels in the State of Massachusetts’ lawsuit against several major tobacco companies, resulting in $8 billion for the state as its share of the tobacco settlement. In the immediate future, he intends to continue his passion for teaching and writing.
