With 43 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Uchimoto has excelled as managing director of William W. Uchimoto Law since 2015. He began his career as an attorney working in the Division of Market Regulation at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission from 1981 to 1986. He garnered a stellar reputation as senior vice president and general counsel at the Philadelphia Stock Exchange from 1986 to 1997. He served as a partner at Saul Ewing LLP from 2003 to 2008 before transitioning to the role of partner and chairman of China Practice Group at Buchanan Ingersroll & Rooney PC from 2008 to 2010. He was active as a shareholder at Stevens & Lee PC from 2010 to 2015.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Uchimoto pursued an education at the University of California, Davis, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1978. He concluded his studies at the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco, formerly UC Hastings, graduating with a Juris Doctorate in economics in 1981. He is certified by the Philadelphia Bar.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Uchimoto has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He contributed to Rotary International. In addition to his primary vocation, he remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He was a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association and offered his services as a long-standing lecturer at the International Law Institute.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Uchimoto has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was presented with the Diversity Committee Award for Philadelphia by the Philadelphia Bar Association and cited in the book, “The Elusive Trade: How Exchange-Traded Funds Conquered Wall Street.” He was featured in The Philadelphia Inquirer in 2019 and 2020 for leading the charge in corporate reform and governance in Japan.
Mr. Uchimoto believes that being a law firm partner and heading up securities regulation practice is a highly rewarding profession. To help those who were truly in need of his expertise, he decided to cut his rates. As a result, he witnessed the extensive happiness and relief in the clients who were suddenly able to afford his services. In the immediate future, he intends to continue his work in law and one day hopes to become a grandfather.
