Terryl L. Brown, vice president and general counsel at Pace University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal administration.
With 33 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Brown has excelled as vice president and general counsel at Pace University since 2023. She began her career in the Office of the Attorney General of the State of New York as assistant attorney general from 1995 to 1997 and assistant deputy attorney general from 1997 to 2006. She worked as acting counsel and first assistant counsel to the Governor in the New York State Governor’s Office from 2007 to 2008. At the New York Power Authority, she served as executive vice president and general counsel of the New York Power Authority from 2008 to 2010.
Ms. Brown continued her career as counsel to the Attorney General and Chief Ethics Officer working in the Office of the Attorney General of the State of New York from 2011 to 2012. She garnered a stellar reputation as a partner at Harris Beach PLLC from 2012 to 2014. She found success as chief legal counsel to the Deputy Commissioner for Legal Affairs and Administration within the Fire Department of New York City from 2014 to 2023.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Brown pursued an education at Pace University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and government in 1986. She continued her academic efforts at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, obtaining a Master of Business Administration and a Juris Doctorate in 1990. At the Universiteit van Amsterdam School of International Relations, she studied international law in 1991. She concluded her studies at Villanova School of Business, graduating with a Master of Science in church management in 2019. She holds eight certifications from the Wharton Executive Education program.
In addition to her primary vocation, Ms. Brown remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She was a member of the Municipal Credit Union Supervisory Committee, the Advisory Board of the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board for the Red Cross, the Isaac H. Tuttle Fund, the Church Management Advisory Board of the Villanova University Center for Church Management, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., the New York State Bar Association, the New York City Bar Association, and was a past member of the National Association of Attorneys General. Furthermore, she sat on the board of trustees of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Academy.
In light of her impressive undertakings, Ms. Brown has accrued several accolades throughout her career. She was presented with the Certificate of Merit from the Federation of African American Civil Service Organizations. In the immediate future, she has set her sights on furthering her education and giving back to her alma mater. She is also keen to join the pay board to assist organizations and continue her mentorship efforts.
