With over 35 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Edgerton has excelled as an attorney at Edgerton & Edgerton, Attorneys at Law since 1996. He began his career in Kane County, Illinois, where he served as county clerk, circuit clerk, and deputy clerk from 1987 to 1992, and as 711 intern in the State’s Attorney’s Office in 1996. He worked as a legal assistant specializing in real estate and bankruptcy at Winston & Strawn LLP from 1992 to 1993.
Mr. Edgerton established himself as a law clerk at Farrell, Edgerton & Hatfield, now Edgerton & Edgerton, Attorneys at Law, from 1993 to 1996, and then as associate attorney at same from 1996 to 1998. Concurrent to these postings, he found success as a graduate assistant at Northern Illinois University College of Business and in-house law clerk at Zurich Kemper Investments, Inc. from 1994 to 1996.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Edgerton pursued an education at Elgin Community College where he earned an associate of science degree with high honors. He continued his academic efforts at the College of Business at Northern Illinois University, graduating cum laude with a bachelor of business management in 1992. He concluded his studies at the College of Law at Northern Illinois University and obtained his Juris Doctorate, magna cum laude, in 1996. He was admitted to practice law before the United States District Court in 1996.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Edgerton has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He found success with his written works “Schiro v. Farley: If at First You Don’t Succeed, Trial and Trial Again: The Demise of Double Jeopardy Clause Within the Context of Capital Punishment” in 1995 and “!!!!! Warning !!!!! – The “Get Out of Jail Free” Card No Longer Applies to Attorneys Who Are Attempting to Collect Consumer Debts,” which he co-authored in 1997. He held the role of managing editor of the Law Review of Northern Illinois University College of Law from 1995 to 1996.
In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Edgerton remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has contributed as a legal aid and volunteer lawyer at the DuPage County Courthouse since 2018 and provided free legal services in the Kane County Courthouse since 2011. Furthermore, he performed the duties of arbitrator in DuPage County, Kane County, and McHenry County. He was active at Kane County Mounted Rangers as a mounted ranger, former director, and former vice president since 1991.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Edgerton has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He attained the distinction of becoming the youngest chair-qualified arbitrator during his earlier years and has handled over 12 jury trials, each of which yielded highly favorable outcomes for him. He has undertaken more than 500 trials and arbitrations, was a three-time inductee to Who’s Who Top Attorneys of North America, and received three recognitions and two awards for his unparalleled excellence in litigation.
