He began his career as an assistant district attorney in the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office in 1980, which led to his work as chief of the Civil Forfeiture Unit in 1987. From there, he moved into working with law firms beginning as an associate at Sheft Wright & Sweeney in 1988, and a senior litigation associate with Herzfeld & Rubin, P.C. in 1989 before opening his own practice in 1997. In 2000, he excelled with the New York Psychotherapy and Counseling Center where he helped the center advance from an unknown entity to the largest provider of children’s outpatient behavioral health services in the state of New York. After this great accomplishment, Mr. Bettelheim provided his expertise to the New York Center for Child Development in 2021 as vice president of operations.
As a lifelong learner, Mr. Bettelheim often subscribes to the motto that “any day that you are not learning something new is wasted.” He proved this as true when he became the first person in his family to earn a college degree, earning a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania in 1977. Later obtaining his Juris Doctor from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law in 1980. Mr. Bettelheim is also an accomplished cabaret performer, graduating from the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center Cabaret Symposium in 1999.
