Before entering his industry, he pursued a formal education, ultimately achieving a Juris Doctor at the Golden Gate University School of Law in 1980.
Adjacent to his primary professional endeavors, Mr. Riley remains active as a civic-minded citizen. To wit, he is the founder of the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund, which he continues to co-chair today. Likewise, he is a founding member of the Coalition for Police Accountability and the chair of the board of the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts and the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music. To commemorate his accomplishments, Mr. Riley was recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022, and he received the Law for the People Award in 2012. Attributing much of his success to his passion for attaining true justice, he is particularly proud of his work on numerous police misconduct cases.
