Thomas S. Rue, chair of the admiralty and marine practice at Maynard Nexsen, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of legal service.
Mr. Rue, who also serves as a shareholder on behalf of Maynard Nexsen, leverages more than 35 years of expertise in representing vessel owners, operators and charterers. Likewise skilled in commercial litigation, he previously served as a member and associate at Johnstone, Adams, Bailey, Gordon & Harris LLC from 1974 until 2013. Well-regarded for his accomplishments in the field, he has notably distinguished himself as a past president of the Maritime Law Association of the United States, the only citizen of Alabama to do so in the organization’s history. Mr. Rue also maintains his affiliation with such groups as the American Bar Association, for which he is a past chair of their committee on admiralty and maritime law and the Tulane Admiralty Law Institute.
After graduating from the University of the South with a Bachelor of Arts in international politics, cum laude, in 1968, Mr. Rue went on to study at the University of Alabama School of Law, from which he received a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1974. Following this accomplishment, he was admitted to practice law in the state of Alabama, as well as before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Sixth Circuits, and the Supreme Court of the United States. In honor of his considerable achievements, Mr. Rue has been bestowed with numerous accolades, including recognition as one of the Best Lawyers in America for Admiralty and Maritime Law and Commercial Litigation since 2005. He also maintains an AV Preeminent Rating via Martindale-Hubbell.
