Prior to these positions, he began his career as a shareholder with Shear Newman Hahn & Rosenkranz, P.A. from 1989 to 2000. During this time, Mr. Distasio defended medical institutions in cases of nursing home and assisted living abuse and neglect, which ultimately informed his decision to become a plaintiff’s lawyer in the years that followed.

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Distasio pursued an education at the University of Florida Warrington College of Business, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1986. He continued his academic efforts with PhD coursework in economics at the aforementioned university. He concluded his studies at the University of Florida Fredric G. Levin College of Law in 1989, graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. In addition to these accomplishments, Mr. Distasio has been admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Florida as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Distasio remains associated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has been affiliated with the Tampa Bay Trial Lawyers, the American Bar Association, the Florida Justice Association and the American Association for Justice. Mr. Distasio has been additionally active as a member of The Florida Bar and the Hillsborough County Bar Association.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Distasio has been recognized with an AV rating as a personal injury lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest peer-review rating possible from the institution. Likewise, he was selected for inclusion in the Top 100 by the National Trial Lawyers in 2023. Notably, Mr. Distasio has been driven by his experiences following the COVID-19 Pandemic, as he witnessed conditions and problems in assisted living facilities were much worse during hearings via Zoom and Microsoft Teams, in addition to the COVID-19 immunity bill passed by the Governor of Florida that has made it incredibly difficult to bring a claim against a facility for neglecting to have systems in place to deal with public health concerns.
