Leveraging more than 40 years of experience, Mr. Petersen has excelled in the field of law, specializing in intellectual property and patent law, amongst other legal services. Since 2019, he has excelled as an intellectual property partner and attorney for FisherBroyles LLP in Illinois. Prior to his current appointment, he was a partner and patent attorney for Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP in Chicago from 2015 to 2019. Furthermore, he operated as a patent attorney and shareholder for Pauley Petersen & Erickson from 1997 to 2015 and for Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione from 1987 to 1996. Having originally begun his professional career working in the fields of science, Mr. Petersen was a senior research engineer for new polymers research and development at Norchem from 1980 to 1986.
As part of his vocational journey, Mr. Petersen remains licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois, having earned licensure from the Supreme Court of Illinois, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He previously pursued a formal education, originally earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at Iowa State University in 1980 and subsequently achieving a Juris Doctor in intellectual property at the Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 1986. Mr. Petersen also remains active as a member of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association. Attributing much of his success to his dedication to high-quality customer service, Mr. Petersen is particularly proud of to have helped one of his clients, an inventor of a new plastic extrusion technology, sell their invention to a larger company, which ultimately proved to be a multimillion dollar deal.
