Jeffrey L. Ihnen, Esq., of counsel at Jondle & Associates PC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of legal service.
Recognized for more than 40 years of contributions to his chosen field, Mr. Ihnen has earned distinction for his work of counsel on behalf of Jondle & Associates PC, a legal firm specializing in intellectual property law as it relates to patents, trademarks, licensing, contracts, infringement, trade secrets and dispute resolution, and more. Bearing a particular focus on U.S. and foreign patent preparation and prosecution in the fields of biology, biotechnology, biomedicine and proprietary chemicals, pharmaceuticals and plants, Mr. Ihnen is largely responsible for providing consultations to clients regarding the development and implementation of patent strategies, research and development, and market clearance for products, among other areas of concern.
Prior to his work at Jondle & Associates, Mr. Ihnen served as a partner at Rothwell, Figg, Ernst & Manbeck PC from 1997 until 2021, whereupon he entered semi-retirement. Throughout this period, he performed several technology audits and due diligence analysis, and accrued a wealth of experience in preparing infringement opinions and “freedom to operate” opinions. Likewise, Mr. Ihnen was most proud to have written and prosecuted patent applications for high-profile genetic sequences, including for the BRCA1 and BRCA2 breast cancer genes.
Mr. Ihnen initially studied chemistry and mathematics at Wartburg College, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in 1973. Following this accomplishment, he continued his academic pursuits at the University of Iowa, graduating with a Master of Science in biochemistry in 1976. After deciding against pursuing a doctorate, he took the advice of his then-girlfriend’s father, a patent attorney, who counseled him to leverage his scientific knowledge and follow a similar career path. Mr. Ihnen concluded his edification at the George Washington University Law School, where he studied intellectual property law and obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1980. He subsequently earned admission to practice law before the District of Columbia Bar and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
In accounting for his success, Mr. Ihnen largely credits his propensity for hard work, as well as his ability to focus on the task at hand. Looking toward the future, he aspires to continue enjoying the reduced workload that semi-retirement affords and focus more of his efforts on civic service, such as with the Boy Scouts of America.
