Since 1966, he has served as a partner and attorney at Schackow & Mercadante, his private law firm where he and his colleagues specialize in casework pertaining to personal injury and wrongful deaths. In particular, Mr. Schackow’s firm handles items such as animal attacks, medical negligence and product liability, aviation accidents, and catastrophic injuries. Prior to embarking on his vocational journey, Mr. Schackow honorably served in the United States Army for three years. He subsequently pursued a formal education, beginning with his time at the University of Hawaii, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1963. Shortly thereafter, he attended the University of Florida Levin College of Law and achieved a Juris Doctor in 1965. In addition to his academic credentials, Mr. Schackow is also licensed to practice law by The Florida Bar and in the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Florida by the respective United States District Courts.
In his other entrepreneurial endeavors, Mr. Schackow also previously operated as the owner of the Athletic Attic in Athletic Attic in Gainesville, Florida, from 1971 to 1998 and as the owner of over 30 Brody’s Frozen Yogurt stores from 1980 to 2002. As part of his dedication to all of his professional endeavors, he has also remained active with several pertinent organizations over the course of his career, including the Eighth Judicial Circuit Bar Association Inc., the American Board of Trial Advocates and the Florida Justice Association. Furthermore, he is a former president of the American Inns of Court. Mr. Schackow is also known for his scholarly output, having authored the “Florida Family Law Practice Manual,” which was published by Matthew Bender and Company Inc. in 1970.
Mr. Schackow attributes much of his success to his upbringing in the state of Ohio, where he learned to become self-disciplined and build a dedicated work ethic. He was inspired to pursue a career in law after receiving a leg injury from being struck by a car and working with a lawyer to settle the case. In light of this, he hoped to gain his own experience in the field and offer his services at an affordable price. To wit, Mr. Schackow is proud to have reached a position in his career where he can do just that, and he looks forward to continuing his work as a lawyer in the coming years.
