Warren Lee Lewis Esq., Partner at Akerman LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in franchising and licensing law.
Since 2009, Mr. Lewis has worked as a partner at Akerman LLP. In this position, he is co-chair of the franchise and licensing team at the firm. He drafts documents, agreements, and disclosures required by federal and state law. He negotiates deals, investigates mergers and acquisitions, and advises on franchise inquiries. Mr. Lewis previously garnered experience with the Peace Corps from 1967 to 1969 and served as the editor-in-chief of Beachcomber Magazines. He was also with The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Sun and has found success as an author, writing “The Franchise Seller’s Handbook” in 2010 and 2017. Mr. Lewis co-authored “Oceanfront FRS Franchise Registration Software User’s Handbook” in 2009 and 2017, and “Is Your System Compliant? Recent Changes and Hot Issues In Federal and State Franchise Regulation,” for the American Bar Association Forum on Franchising in 2015.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Lewis earned a Bachelor of Science with high honors in journalism from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1967. In 1972, he graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence, with honors, from the George Washington University Law School. Mr. Lewis has been admitted to practice before the Virginia Supreme Court, the United States Supreme Court, in the state of Virginia, and in the District of Columbia. He is a Certified Franchise Executive with the International Franchise Association and maintains affiliation with the American Bar Association, the North American Securities Administrators Association, and the Capital Area Franchise Association. For his accomplishments, Mr. Lewis has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Franchise Law in Washington, D.C., since 2009. He attributes his success to focusing on his specialty, and in the coming years, he looks forward to continuing to grow a team at Akerman LLP.
