After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in electrical and electronics engineering from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa in 2013, Mr. Sutton continued his education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota in 2017 and served from 2016 to 2018 as a senior law clerk with Patterson Thuente Pedersen IP. From 2019 to 2022, Mr. Sutton provided superior service as a patent examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Virginia, where he examined patent applications claimed under art unit 2137 relating to data processing, memory access and control of electronics.
In 2022, Mr. Sutton rejoined Patterson Thuente Pedersen IP, where he currently excels as a patent attorney in which he has parlayed his background in electrical engineering to patent prosecution in several technical fields that include medical, mechanical and computer technology. Mr. Sutton is registered with United States Patent and Trademark Office and is licensed to practice law in Minnesota. He attributes his success to his hard work and dedication. From a young age, Mr. Sutton already knew he wanted to go into patent law, whether it be prosecuting as a patent attorney, or the opposite side as a patent examiner. One of his biggest goals in the coming years is to transition to become a patent associate and practice patent law.
