After coursework in music performance at The Juilliard School in New York, Ms. Vernon obtained a Bachelor of Arts in music and comparative literature, summa cum laude, from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. She then continued her education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Stanford Law School at Stanford University in California.

Ms. Vernon began her legal career as Of Counsel with DLA Piper in Palo Alto, California from 2015 to 2017 and then partner in the corporate and securities group of renowned startup law firm VLP Law Group LLP from 2018 to 2019. She then found much success as an advisor to entrepreneurs, companies and investors as a partner with the Zhong Lun Law Firm from 2018 to 2021. Since 2019, she has prospered as founder and chief executive officer of Joynup, Inc., an organization that assists couples by lowering relationship risks with customized agreements to protect their finances and future and resolve conflicts without lawsuits, legalese and giant fees. 

Ms. Vernon’s many career accolades include the Women in Law Award, Investments and Private Equity from Lawyer Monthly in 2021; inclusions in Women to Watch: Silicon Valley’s Leading Business Women from American City Business Journals in 2016 and Women of Influence of Silicon Valley from Silicon Valley Business Journal, American City Business Journals in 2016; and Global Corporate Venture Award, Legal Firm of the Year with DLA Piper.

Ms. Vernon has served as co-chair of the Legal Clinics Committee, San Mateo County Bar Association from 2021 to the present, as chair of the Women Lawyers’ Section, San Mateo County Bar Association in 2020 and in 2016 was a founding board member of Athena Alliance, an organization that helps women prepare for board service with educational offerings as well as networking opportunities and coaching services.

Ms. Vernon attributes her success to her persistence, hard work and positive thinking. She also credits her success to the friendships she’s built and always looking for ways to improve. She decided to pursue a career in law because she realized that the law can be used to protect originality. She found herself specializing in tech and corporate law because she grew up around technology since her father was one of the very first computer developers. As a career highlight, Ms. Vernon cites being able to go back to work after establishing her own family and flourishing in her profession, while raising her children as a single mother. In the coming years, Ms. Vernon envisions herself working on a larger scale in her current industry. She also hopes to grow her company, Joynup, and maintain her law practice.
