Nathan T. Bennett, Esq.

Title: Chief Executive Officer, Managing Attorney
Company: Bennett Law L.C.
Location: Petersburg, West Virginia, United States

Nathan Bennett, Executive Officer and Managing Attorney at Bennett Law L.C., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in family law and criminal litigation.

Following obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in sociology in 2017 from Western Colorado University in Gunnison, Mr. Bennett continued his education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from West Virginia University College of Law in Morgantown in 2020. He is licensed to practice by the West Virginia State Bar and in the federal courts of the Northern District of West Virginia. During his academic career, Mr. Bennett received a Rural Practice Scholarship from West Virginia University, Western Scholars Award, Helen Hirst Scholarship and Thornton Assistance Scholarship from Western Colorado University, where he attained the Dean’s List.

After gaining valuable initial experience as an intern at the Allegheny Public Defender’s Office in Pittsburgh in 2017, Mr. Bennett provided superior service as a compliance coordinator with West Virginia University from 2018 to 2020 before founding Bennett Law L.C. in Petersburg, West Virginia the latter year, a premier firm specializing in family law, criminal defense, personal injury, wills and estates and business transactional law with a special commitment of helping people in rural West Virginia. In addition, he has excelled as a municipal judge and city attorney for Bayard, West Virginia since 2020 and as the owner of Inventory Auditing Company in Denver. He was an inaugural recipient of the West Virginia Rural Practice Scholarship with the West Virginia State Bar every year from 2017 to 2019.

To remain aware of changes and advancements in his field, Mr. Bennett maintains affiliations with the West Virginia State Bar Association; Northern District of West Virginia Federal Courts, Federal Bar Association; Rotary Club; American Bar Association; West Virginia Association for Justice; and Phi Theta Kappa.

Being one of the inaugural recipients of the West Virginia Rural Scholarship given by the West Virginia State Bar in 2017 has what Mr. Bennett considers to be his most notable accomplishment. The program places lawyers in rural areas of West Virginia for three years. Each year of the service, their tuition is reimbursed at an in-state tuition level for law school which essentially helped them pay their debt or graduate with less debt. Additionally, he is also most proud of his involvement with the State Bar in forming a committee that analyzes and looks at the way that the laws in the State of West Virginia are protecting the LGBTQ+ community. The committee will also determine what struggles LGBTQ+ lawyers are going through and address the issues within the state.

In the coming years, Mr. Bennett hopes to grow Bennett Law L.C. and to establish a multistate operation allowing his firm to conduct rural practice in another state. For instance, in Mr. Bennett’s opinion, neither West Virginia nor Maine has a robust public defender system. The states’ public defenders are private attorneys who are appointed by the court, especially in rural areas. Consequently, he believes that it would lead to an expansion of services if they are able to encourage several law schools to support this initiative for them to appoint more lawyers in rural areas.
