Following earning Bachelors of Arts in political science and economics from the University of Michigan-Flint in 1987, Mr. Smith continued his education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Wayne State University Law School in 1990, where he was a James B. Angell Scholar. He prospered as an associate attorney with Bodman PLC from 1990 to 1993, in which he worked with business transactions, litigation, environmental and bankruptcy law groups, before founding his own practice, the Law Office of David Smith, in 1994, in which he specializes in corporate litigation and counseling, collections law and contract litigation.
As a career highlight, Mr. Smith cites winning a judgment of $100,000 at the court of appeals level in a case involving the bass player in popular musician Bob Seger’s band. In addition to his work as an attorney, Mr. Smith also takes pride in restoring Mopars, or “muscle cars.” Hailing from Michigan, his father assembled cars and Mr. Smith inherited his love of automobiles. He has enjoyed his tenure as secretary of North Oakland Mopar Muscle, which has donated to the Make A Wish Foundation, which aids children suffering from cancer. In the coming years, Mr. Smith is hoping for the continued success of his firm and for retirement in perhaps a decade.
