John A. Davis, Jr.

Title: Partner
Company: Davis & Davis, Attorneys
Location: Houston, Texas, United States

John A. Davis, Jr., Partner at Davis & Davis, Attorneys, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical malpractice litigation.

Following obtaining a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting, with honors, from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, Mr. Davis continued his education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1981 from South Texas College of Law Houston. He is admitted to practice in the State of Texas, United States District Court Southern District of Texas, the United States District Court Eastern District of Texas and the United States Court of Appeals 5th Circuit.

Mr. Davis began his legal career as an associate attorney with Wyckoff, Russell, Dunn & Frazier from 1981 to 1982 and with Friedman & Chaffin, P.C. from 1982 to 1983 and subsequently with his own practice as attorney and counselor-at-law with John A. Davis, Jr., PC from 1984 to 1993 and as a partner with Davis & Ryan from 1988 to 1989. After excelling as a partner with Davis, Hill & McMath from 1993 to 1995, Mr. Davis has flourished as a partner with Partner, Davis & Davis, Attorneys from 1997 to the present, in which his practice centers on medical malpractice, misdiagnoses, birth injuries and surgical and hospital errors. Besides his work in law practice, Mr. Davis also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Houston from 1987 to 1997, teaching both basic and advanced civil trial advocacy. Several of his students became trial judges in Harris County, while others now serve as trial judges for the Courts of Appeals. He furthermore privately mentors predominantly African American attorneys because he believes that they often lack opportunities for career development in the legal field.

To remain aware of changes and advancements in his field, Mr. Davis maintains affiliation with the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the National Trial Lawyers Association and the American Board of Trial Advocates and he is a past member of the Legal Education Committee of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association.

Mr. Davis finds gratification from the fact that his firm obtained the highest verdict in a dental malpractice case in Texas, Patricia Barlow v. Raymond Reid, D.M.D., in 1987 at the 11th District Court in Harris County. He equally draws a sense of great accomplishment from winning a landmark explosion case in 1995, because he was the only lawyer to have successfully done so against the Phillips Petroleum Company. Mr. Davis prides himself on doing excellent work, with more than 200 trials and thousands of settlements throughout his career.

In the coming years, Mr. Davis would like to continue to grow his firm. His daughter will be graduating from the University of Houston with a 3.98 GPA, and his hope for her is to pass her LSAT (Law School Admission Test) and then finish law school in four years before joining his firm.
