Joel Sogol, Attorney at Law, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in criminal defense and personal injury litigation.
After initially obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1970 from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Mr. Sogol continued his education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Alabama School of Law in Tuscaloosa in 1973.
After providing superior service as a Senior Assistant Public Defender with Tuscaloosa County from 1974 to 1978, he founded his own firm the latter year and was joined by Joel Chandler in 1979 in Sogol & Chandler. Following Mr. Chandler’s departure to serve as a District Court Judge in 1992, Mr. Sogol returned to solo practice. He is licensed to practice in all Alabama state courts, the U.S. District Court Middle District of Alabama, the U.S. District Court Northern District of Alabama, the U.S. District Court Southern District of Alabama, the U.S. Court of Appeals 11th Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals 5th Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Sogol also has excelled as an adjunct professor with University of Alabama School of Law since 1990. His practice areas specialize in criminal defense and personal injuries.
Mr. Sogol is a founding member of the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and has acted as a board member for the American Board of Criminal Lawyers and the American Civil Liberties Union of Alabama. In addition, has earned much recognition for his accomplishments, including ratings from Martindale-Hubbell and Super Lawyers. He has been further distinguished amongst America’s Top 100 Criminal Defense Lawyers and earned the Roderick Beddow Lifetime Award from the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.
Mr. Sogol attributes his success to hard work, being prepared to everything he needs to do, and a good aptitude of what he does. He is proud to be the first college graduate in the family, and also to have advanced his way through the rankings by doing the work that no one else wanted to do. He has also assisted in rewriting many of the Alabama rules for criminal procedures.
