Following obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 2007 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 2012 in chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Long later continued his education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Baylor University School of Law in Waco, Texas. He provided superior service at UT Austin from 2006 to 2012 as a graduate research assistant, teaching assistant and Welch Summer Scholar Research Coordinator, in which he mentored high school students conducting original research, prepared activities for students, and guided students’ development of scientific skills. As an organic chemist, Dr. Long has extensive experience synthesizing and characterizing small molecules and has excelled in the area of molecular recognition.

In 2013, Dr. Long joined Parker Highlander PLLC as a scientific advisor, in which he assisted in the preparation of patents and reviewed and prepared responses to office actions by the USPTO and foreign offices. He subsequently excelled with the firm from 2015 to 2021 as a patent agent, reviewing and preparing patent applications for chemical and small molecule therapeutic applications. In addition, Dr. Long prepared and drafted responses for actions from the USPTO as well as other jurisdictions and managed portfolios of complicated patent families.

After earning his law degree, Dr. Long became an associate with Parker Highlander PLLC, where he has worked on the drafting and prosecution of patents, focusing on numerous different areas of chemistry including small molecule therapeutics, diagnostics and polymers. In addition, Dr. Long has worked on patentability and freedom to operate analysis and has experience managing portfolios of patent families.

Dr. Long became involved in molecular studies and patents because he believed it meshed with his skills and areas of interest well. In the coming years, he intends to continue to advance in his career and grow his practice. He would like to help as many people as he can.
