Alan Davis, Of Counsel at Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in franchise litigation.

Following obtaining a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Rutgers University in 1962, Mr. Davis continued his education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Columbia Law School in 1965. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey and the states of New Jersey and New York. Mr. Davis has served his country as a distinguished graduate of the Rutgers Army R.O.T.C. for two years from 1966 to 1967 as an AG Captain on active duty as Chief Military Personnel Officer at Fort Myer, now known as Joint Base Myer–Henderson Hall, Virginia.

For more than 35 years, Alan E. Davis, of Counsel, has thrived as a Partner at Greenbaum Rowe Smith & Davis LLP in Woodbridge, New Jersey. Before and after his military service, he prospered as an attorney with Wilentz, Goldman and Spitzer in New York from 1964 to 1974. In addition, he has served as chairman of the Executive Compensation Committee with Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health. Mr. Davis’ practice encompasses a broad range of legal matters, including financing, strategic business planning, securities transactions, the acquisition, sale and dissolution of businesses and related assets, and relations with suppliers, customers and non-union staff.

As an expert in franchise law, Mr. Davis has authored and co-authored pertinent texts such as “How Thirty-Four Words May Make A Difference,” “The New Protest Statute: Some Observations One Year After Adoption” and “Potential Pitfalls of Corporate Distributions.” As a lecturer, his themes have included “Why Enhancements Are Needed to New Jersey’s Franchise Practices Act,” for the NJ CAR Business & Education Expo and “Two Tier Pricing,” at the NJ CAR annual meeting. In addition, he served as the principal draftsman of the original New Jersey Franchise Practices Act, which was enacted in 1971.

Mr. Davis was honored for his expertise as the Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers and with a Robert N. Wilentz Lifetime Achievement Award from the Middlesex County Bar Association in 2014. He has been Rated AV Preeminent, the best rating possible, by premier attorney peer ratings service Martindale-Hubbell, and was listed in The Best Lawyers in America every year from 1987 to the present. Mr. Davis has been a member for several community organizations, including Monmouth Medical Center Board of Trustees and also its Foundation as well as the Board of Trustees of Monmouth University and its Foundation. He also served as one of two governor’s representatives on the Board of Trustees of the Public Employees Retirement System of New Jersey from 1995 to 2002.

The success of Mr. Davis is mostly attributed to his passion for what he does. Even after being a lawyer for five decades, he is still excited to go to the office every day to solve his clients’ problems. He became involved in his profession because he was inspired by his father who was also a lawyer.
