John Garner, Staff Counsel at Scialdone Law Firm, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in commercial dispute resolution.
From 1985 to 1995, Mr. Garner served his country as a surface warfare officer with the United States Navy, during which time he participated in active mine hunting in the Persian Gulf during the War in Iraq on variety of ship types including cruisers and oceangoing mine sweepers. From 1991 to 1993, he served as a as a staff officer for the Naval Reserve Center of the United States Navy in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he counseled and advised numerous constituents while serving as military and Veteran Affairs adviser for United States Senator Bruce Bingaman. In addition, he developed and directed strategy for regulatory compliance under facility management contracts with the Department of Defense and Kirkland Air Force Base.
After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in journalism from Northwestern University in Chicago, Mr. Garner later continued his education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1995 from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and followed with a Master of Laws in admiralty in 1997 from Tulane Law School in New Orleans. Mr. Garner provided superior service as a senior associate from 2006 to 2008 with Healy and Associates and with Fowler Rodriguez from 2008 to 2016.
Since 1997 Mr. Garner has excelled as a staff counsel with the Scialdone Law Firm in Gulfport, where he excels in corporate negotiations, resolving numerous cases for a variety of clients including saving thousands of dollars for drilling companies to assisting communities in recovering insurance money in the rebuilding effort after Hurricane Katrina. In addition, he has created complex databases used in salvaging operations as well as led litigation efforts that resulted in the return of property to local landowners following proceedings in the Mississippi chancery court.
As career highlights, Mr. Garner cites his maritime cases in which he assisted saving thousands of dollars spearheading contract development and review for major offshore exploration companies involved with rig refurbishment and new builds at various shipyards. He also takes pride in the results of his firm’s criminal defense cases. In the coming years, Mr. Garner’s goal is to help grow and expand the Scialdone Law Firm and to be part of a mentor program in Louisiana to help younger lawyers.
