Mr. Scott is an attorney, strategic leader and risk management consultant who excels at helping his clients meet their strategic goals through creative and proactive legal and risk management strategies. Following obtaining a Bachelor of Science in accountancy in 1992 from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Mr. Scott continued his education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence, cum laude, in 1995 from the Southern Illinois University School of Law in Carbondale. He began his career as a law clerk at State Farm Insurance from 1993 to 1994, where he researched coverage issues and helped draft coverage opinions on auto and homeowner’s claims. He then prospered as assistant counsel and then counsel with State Farm from 1995 to 2003, during which he practiced in the areas of records management, contract law, employment law and general corporate law.
Mr. Scott then flourished from 2003 to 2017 with Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) in Decatur, Illinois, the food processing and commodities trading corporation operating more than 270 plants and 420 crop procurement facilities worldwide. From 2003 to 2008, as manager of international insurance, he was responsible for the development, placement, and administration of ADM’s global insurance programs; from 2008 to 2010, he served as global manager of ADM’s insurance and risk management, as director of insurance operations from 2010 to 2014 and as vice president of insurance and risk management from 2014 to 2017.
Beginning in 2017, Mr. Scott has found much success as an attorney with Allison & Mosby-Scott in Bloomington, where he heads the firm’s business law practice and serves as president of Allison & Mosby-Scott Risk Management, the firm’s risk management consulting practice. His practice areas include business and commercial litigation, business organization and transactions, mergers and acquisitions, ERISA, contracts, crop insurance and captive insurance company taxation, formation and regulation.
Mr. Scott attributes his success to his mentors at ADM, Mike Lusk, Peter Joy and John Lauer. As a career highlight, he cites his work in crop insurance and acquiring the managed digital agency with ADM. From $12 million in gross written premium when they bought it, he was able to grow it exponentially to $550 million in gross premium by the time they sold it. In the coming years, Mr. Scott would like to see Allison & Mosby-Scott’s practice grow, particularly on the commercial side.
