Since 2020, Mr. Canaras has provided superior service as associate general counsel for employment, labor and benefits for The Home Depot, the largest home improvement retailer in the United States, at its Atlanta headquarters. His responsibilities include managing nationwide complex employment litigation, including class actions and high-profile agency actions, leading preventive employment law function for nationwide workforce of 400,000 employees, drafting and negotiation of complex employment and separation agreements, and daily consultation with human resources and business clients regarding discipline and investigation issues. Previously, Mr. Canaras excelled in private practice in labor and employment law from 1989 to 1996 and as a manager in employee relations for Payless ShoeSource from 1996 to 1999.

After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in psychology, summa cum laude, from Tulane University in 1998, Mr. Canaras continued his education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence, cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School in 1991.

Mr. Canaras attributes his success to being dedicated to becoming a better lawyer at each of the different places that he has worked. He has also been focused on developing himself as a leader. His interest in the law began when he was a child, and he was always curious about the rules of the game and how they worked, as well as how the law had a natural appeal in terms of how people operate as a society and how it was enforced and understood. Mr. Canaras cites as his most notable achievement was when he managed Home Depot through its federal contractor compliance program, which involved setting up policies and staffing, basically a whole new department for the company. In the coming years, he hopes to continue to grow and enhance his function at Home Depot and to continue to develop leaders within the organization.
