The Honorable Lourdes M. Ventura, Supreme Court Justice of the State of New York 11th Judicial Circuit, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in adjudication.
In 2019, Justice Ventura was elected to a 14-year term as a Supreme Court Justice of the State of New York 11th Judicial Circuit. Throughout 2019, Judge Ventura served as a judge in the Civil Court of the City of New York in Queens County. From 2010 to 2018, she had excelled as a partner in the law firm Ahmuty Demers and McManus in Albertson, New York, specializing in all aspects of civil litigation.
As counsel and deputy chief of staff with the New York State Senate from 2007 to 2010, Justice Ventura served as a member of the Senate Democratic Leader’s Cabinet, managed the policy and finance departments of the Senate Democratic Conference, served as counsel to the leader of the Senate Democratic Conference and prepared the Tri-Level Legislative Task Force Report on Improving Public Confidence in Law Enforcement, and provided legislative, and field, support to senators on Latino and immigrant statewide, and federal, issues impacting these communities.
Justice Ventura provided superior service as assistant attorney general with the New York State Attorney General’s office from 2002 to 2006 and as assistant district attorney with the Queens County District Attorney’s Office from 1998 to 2002. She had begun her career as an Ella Baker legal intern with the Center for Constitutional Rights and as an intern with the Legal Resources Center from 1996 to 1997.
Justice Ventura earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Social Work from the State University of New York and a Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) from the SUNY University at Buffalo School of Law in 1998. She attributes her success to the love and encouragement of her parents, both immigrants to the United States from the Dominican Republic who have both lived to see her become a Supreme Court Justice, as well as her deep faith.
