Gregory R. Kim, Founder at Vantage Counsel LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in corporate and business law.
In 2004, Mr. Kim founded Vantage Counsel LLC, a successful Honolulu law firm specializing in corporate law, securities law, mergers and acquisitions and business law and making an impact as one of the first virtual law firms in the country which permits it to offer clients significantly lower billable rates and alternative fee arrangements, including fixed and deferred fees, due to the lack of overhead.
Mr. Kim initially obtained a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Applied Sciences from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut in 1979 and continued his education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence and a Master of Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley, each in 1983.
After gaining valuable initial experience as a clerk in the law office of the Honorable Herbert Y.C. Choy, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in Honolulu from 1983 to 1984, Mr. Kim prospered as an associate with the firm of Pillsbury, Madison and Sutro, now Pillsbury Winthrop in San Francisco from 1984 to 1988. He thereupon excelled as a partner with Partner, Goodsill Anderson Quinn and Stifel in Honolulu from 1988 to 2004 and as a partner with Virtual Law Partners, LLP from 2009 to 2011 and Convergent Law Group, LLP from 2011 to 2018.
A co-founder of Business Law Corps in Honolulu, an organization providing legal assistance, Mr. Kim served as a founding director of the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Hawaii and on advisory boards of the University of Hawaii Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship (PACE) and Chaminade University Hogan School of Business. Moreover, he is an entrepreneur-in-residence at Punahou School, a professional-in-residence at PACE and has taught the Entrepreneurship and Small Business Clinic at the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law since 2008, as well as entrepreneurship at Chaminade University. Additionally, he served as the Chair of the Business Law Section of the Hawaii Bar and is the principal draftsperson of the Hawaii Business Corporation Act.
Mr. Kim takes a great deal of pride in a development he recently helped to initiate called Help Is on the Way, which delivers groceries, medicines and other products to senior citizens in Hawaii.
