For more than 10 years, Paula Cruz Cedillo has been a partner of McCarter & English, LLP, one of the nation’s largest and oldest law firms, where she handles large, complex, high-exposure cases around the country. With over two decades of legal experience in business litigation, Ms. Cedillo focuses her nationwide practice on advising corporations with a variety of complex business disputes and litigation matters, and has been selected for inclusion in the Best Lawyers in America for Commercial Litigation. Ms. Cedillo also frequently conducts internal corporate investigations amid allegations of government contracting fraud, securities fraud, and violations of the False Claims Act.
Alongside her professional responsibilities, Ms. Cedillo is the co-author of “Connecticut Business Litigation,” currently in its third edition, which is part of the Connecticut Law Tribune’s book series published by ALM, and is a primary resource for Connecticut-based business attorneys. She also authored a chapter of Thomson Reuter’s “Inside the Minds” book series titled “The False Claims Act: Strategy and Protocol for Initial Responses to the Government, Whistleblowers, and Qui Tam Actions.” Ms. Cedillo also maintains active affiliations with a host of legal organizations, including the National Association of Women Lawyers, the Trial Law Institute, and the Diversity Law Institute.
Ms. Cedillo’s decision to become a lawyer was largely motivated by her natural capacity for solving complex problems and her desire to help others. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, from Quinnipiac University in 1998, she earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence, cum laude, from the Quinnipiac University School of Law three years later. While completing her law degree, Ms. Cedillo served as articles editor of the Quinnipiac Law Review.
Ms. Cedillo was notably recognized as one of the “New Leaders in the Law” in 2013 by the Connecticut Law Tribune and one of the 40 Under 40 in 2011 by the Hartford Business Journal. She has additionally been distinguished as a Super Lawyer in New England and Connecticut, and is a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America as well as the American and the Connecticut Bar Foundations. Ms. Cedillo attributes a great deal of her success to her collaborative nature and commitment to achieving the desired outcome of each case, regardless of the amount of time or effort involved.
