Derek H. Potts, Attorney at Potts Law Firm, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in injury litigation.
Mr. Potts obtained a Bachelor of Arts in history from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri in 1993 and continued his education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 1996. He holds licenses to practice law in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, New York and Texas. After gaining valuable initial experience as a prosecutor intern with the district attorney’s office of Wyandotte County, Kansas, he prospered as an associate attorney in the offices of Brown and James, St. Louis, and Dr. Samuel K. Cullen and Associates in Kansas City, in which he defended insurance companies, corporations, and doctors.
In 2002, Mr. Potts turned his attention to representing individuals injured or victimized by others and founded the Potts Law Firm, which has become renowned for assisting individuals injured by pharmaceuticals, medical devices and other dangerous products. His successful verdicts include a $3.0 million judgment in Novogradac vs. Shirshekan, a nursing home negligence case tried in Platte County Missouri Circuit Court, and Millard v. Gard, M.D., a medical malpractice case tried in the United States District Court for the District of Kansas which resulted in a $12.1 million verdict for a minor injury due to medical malpractice. In 2018, Mr. Potts founded Deepwater Productions, a boutique producer of independent feature-length films that include “The Last Astronaut” and “Narco Sub.”
Mr. Potts attributes his success to his persistence and patience were essential to succeeding in all his endeavors. He takes great pride in building his law firm from scratch: from its humble beginnings in his house in Kansas City, he grew it into a national law firm in under two decades. In the near term, Potts Law Firm will be opening a new office in New Orleans and he plans to further expand its reach to other states in five years.
