John Houston Pope, Partner with Epstein Becker & Green, P.C., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in litigation law.
Specializing in employment discrimination defense, employee benefits-related litigation and commercial litigation, Mr. Pope is proud to celebrate nearly 35 years in the legal profession. He initially obtained a Bachelor of Science in sociology and political science from the University of Iowa in 1981 prior to earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence with high distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1987. Thereafter, he was licensed to practice law throughout Colorado, North Dakota, Michigan, New York and Florida. Throughout his career, he found notable success as a judge within the Middle District of Florida, a law clerk for the Honorable Howell W. Melton, Sr., a partner with Davis, Weber & Edwards, P.C. and of counsel for Hogan Lovells. In his current role with Epstein, Becker & Green, he primarily defends employers who are sued in discrimination lawsuits and contributes to employee non-competition issues.
Over the course of 30 years, Mr. Pope is gratified to have represented a multitude of clients on death row who have not been executed. To prove the innocence of his clients, he regularly calls upon the state attorney to join him in asking the court to release evidence that would allow modern DNA technologies testing. For his contributions in the field, he is honored to have been presented with the Thurgood Marshall Award for his pro bono representation of death row inmates by the New York City Bar Association and named a Super Lawyer in the areas of employee benefits, employment litigation, defense and appellate by New York Metro. Looking toward the future, he aims to continue building a portfolio of work in Florida while maintaining quality service for his clients in New York.
