Karen D’Agusto, Esq., Project Director of Protection and Advocacy, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing law.
With a lifelong passion for helping those in need, Ms. D’Agusto became interested in pursuing a career in law while providing underprivileged communities with food stamp assessments during the 1970s. After realizing how many legal issues are associated with poverty, she made it her mission to serve and leave a positive impact on her community in any way possible. She initially obtained a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in history from Immaculata College in 1974 and a Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego in 1977. Thereafter, she completed postgraduate studies at the University of Southern California in 1983. She has since been licensed to practice law in the states of Connecticut, Hawaii and South Carolina.
In addition to her role with Protection and Advocacy, Ms. D’Agusto has found notable success within her private law practice for over 40 years. Though her career has been suffused with highlights, she is most proud of her hospital work, as it has allowed her to advocate for people in institutions, care homes and hospitals because of discrimination based on disability. Further dedicated to serving her community, she is an active participant with her local Girl Scouts troop. For her achievements in the field, she is honored to have been presented with accolades such as the Exceptional Achievement Award, the Distinguished Contribution to Civil Rights of Persons with Disabilities Award, the Outstanding Service to Hawaii’s Disabled Citizens Award and the Outstanding Volunteer of Year Award. Moreover, a celebrated Marquis listee, she is honored to have been presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
