Elkan Abramowitz, of Morvillo Abramowitz Grand Iason & Anello, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law.

With years of experience in litigation and white-collar criminal defense, Mr. Abramowitz has served throughout much of his career as a trial lawyer. He initially obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University in 1961 and a Bachelor of Laws from the New York University School of Law in 1964. Upon graduation, he was admitted to practice law by the New York State Bar Association, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. He began his professional career as a law clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York from 1964 until 1966. Following these accomplishments, Mr. Abramowitz found success as an assistant United States attorney and chief of the criminal division for the Southern District New York.

Prior to establishing himself with Morvillo, Abramowitz, Grand, Iason & Anello in 1979, Mr. Abramowitz maintained involvement with Weiss Rosendale throughout the 1970s. He is proud to have served as a special counsel to the select committee on crime for the U.S. House of Representatives, the assistant deputy mayor for the City of New York and of counsel for the special master in the Garment District antitrust case in 1992. Moreover, he was appointed as the special deputy commissioner for the Department of Investigation in New York to investigate a stock transfer by Mayor David Dinkins to his son. An accomplished author, he has contributed to the White-Collar Crime column in the New York Law Journal as well as the publication “Corporate Sentencing Under the Federal Guidelines.” In order to remain aware with advancements in the field, Mr. Abramowitz has maintained his affiliation with the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Federal Bar Council, the American College of Trial Lawyers, the New York Council of Defense Lawyers and the New York City Bar Association.

Described as a “towering figure” in the legal market, Mr. Abramowitz is renowned as a “superb strategist and tactician who has represented a host of well-known individuals and corporates over the course of his career.”  For his contributions in the field, he is honored to have been presented with the Milton S. Gould Award for Outstanding Advocacy and the Norman Ostrow Award for the Defense of Liberty and Preservation of Individual Rights. Moreover, Mr. Abramowitz has received a multitude of accolades from organizations such as Chambers USA, Benchmark Litigation, the Legal 500: United States, Law360, the National Law Journal and Thomson Reuters’ Super Lawyers.
