Title: Attorney
Company: Leger & Shaw
Location: Covington, California, United States
Franklin G. Shaw, attorney at Leger & Shaw, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in maritime and admiralty law.
Mr. Shaw is an attorney specializing in personal injury, multidistrict litigation, and class action suits with a special focus on representing victims of mass disasters and large accidents and cases involving aspects of maritime and admiralty law. Raised in New Orleans, his first exposure to the field of law was through his father’s work as general counsel for Shell Oil. Later in his career, Mr. Shaw’s father shifted to representing plaintiffs in civil litigation after what he describes as an “act of God.”
His father’s career path and his own teenage jobs as a laborer for area oil companies impressed Mr. Shaw with a sense of the importance of fair representation for workers and a desire to devote his career to helping others. An alum of Louisiana State University, Mr. Shaw earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 1979 and was awarded his Juris Doctor in 1982 after serving as a faculty research assistant for Frank Arheg. He began his legal career in 1986 as a partner of both Leger & Mestayer, where he would practice until 2005, and Leger & Shaw, where he continues to argue cases.
Mr. Shaw has tried multidistrict cases affecting clients in Texas, Ohio, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Mississippi, including litigation work on behalf of victims of the Seacor Power lift boat and Deepwater Horizon cases, as well as several high-profile class-action suits against tobacco companies. In recognition of his career commitment to service and stellar case record, Mr. Shaw was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by America’s Top 100 Attorneys. He is the author of a personal memoir, “Signals of Transcendence: One Man’s Story,” 2018, and is active in community service initiatives with World Vision, the Northlake Christian School community, and the New Orleans Mission, where he sits on the board of directors.
