Stuart A. Summit, a Retired Partner at Phillips Nizer LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of legal service.
With unparalleled expertise in his chosen field, Mr. Summit provided more than six decades of experience to his role as a partner at Phillips Nizer LLP, where he distinguished himself as a partner from 1993 until his retirement. Continuing to serve as a senior counsel, he bears a great deal of fluency in commercial litigation and arbitration, and previously found success as a partner at Summit Rovins & Feldesman from 1976 until 1993 and at Miller & Summit between 1967 and 1976. Mr. Summit initially became involved in legal service as an associate for Mudge, Stern, Baldwin & Todd from 1959 to 1966.
Outside of his work in the private legal sector, Mr. Summit has maintained involvement on the advisory committee of the State and Federal Judicial of New York since 2003. Long dedicated to public service, he worked as the senior counsel for the New York State Commission on Judicial Nominations from 1978 until 2014, and as the executive secretary to the New York City Mayor’s Committee on the Judiciary between 1966 and 1977, during which time he assisted two mayors in selecting judicial appointees. Initially, Mr. Summit clerked for the appellate division of the Supreme Court of New York from 1962 to 1963, during which time he also served as a law secretary to Associate Justice Charles D. Breitel.
Drawing influence from the example of his own father, a single practitioner from Ohio, Mr. Summit had long aspired to become a lawyer before attending Ohio State University, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1957 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence, summa cum laude, in 1959. He has been admitted to practice law in Ohio, New York and the District of Columbia, as well as before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second and Fifth Circuits, and the Supreme Court of the United States. In honor of his significant contributions to the field, Mr. Summit holds AV preeminent status through both Super Lawyers and Martindale-Hubbell.
