April Sampson, Attorney and Circuit Deputy Solicitor at the Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the legal profession.
In preparation for her career in the law, Ms. Sampson attended Washington University in St. Louis, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in political science and African American studies in 1995. She continued her academic efforts at the University of South Carolina School of Law, graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1995. Ms. Sampson was admitted to practice by the state of South Carolina in 1998, as well as by the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina and the United States Supreme Court.
In 1999, Ms. Sampson began working at the county public defender’s office, where she remained until 2005, becoming an associate with Duff, White & Turner LLC until 2008. Subsequently, she worked as an associate with the Law Offices of Richard J. Breitbart LLC from 2008 to 2010, accepting her current role as a circuit deputy solicitor and attorney with the Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office in 2011. In addition to her primary posts, Ms. Sampson contributed her knowledge as an adjunct professor with the University of South Carolina’s department of criminal justice in 2003 and an associate professor with South University, working in the legal studies department, in 2007.
Ms. Sampson has devoted her time to numerous organizations in her community in conjunction with her primary professional efforts. She has been a mentor with the South Carolina Bar’s mentoring program and a coach for both the Dutch Fork High School and University of South Carolina School of Law mock trial teams. She is also the founder of In the Middle, a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance to women, sparked by her own experience with medical expenses as the result of her breast cancer diagnosis. For her myriad accomplishments, she was recognized in Women of the Month by the Richland Bar Association in February 2021. As a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association, Ms. Sampson enjoys reading, attending volleyball events, and spending time with her family in her free hours.
