Gerald T. Richards, JD, Attorney at Law, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in general law.

Currently presiding over the board of directors, Mr. Richards established himself within Contra Costa Senior Legal Services in 1998, having found success as a staff attorney until 2014. He obtained a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, from Lafayette College in 1957, a Master of Science from Purdue University in 1963 and a Juris Doctor from Golden Gate University in 1976. Licensed to practice law by the State Bar of California, he was thereafter admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. After establishing himself as a computational physicist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory from 1967 to 1984, he accepted a position as an assistant laboratory counsel within the organization from 1984 to 1993. He subsequently established a private practice, and worked as an attorney from 1994 to 1997.

Dedicated to the State Bar of California as an emeritus attorney, Mr. Richards currently excels as a pro bono participant. Prior to his professional career as an attorney, he celebrated a prolific military career, having served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant from 1948 to 1952 and a major from 1959 to 1967. For his service, he was awarded the Decorated Army Commendation Medal in 1967. Throughout his career, he has maintained professional affiliations with the Phi Beta Kappa Society, the Tau Beta Pi Association, Inc., Sigma Pi Sigma, the American Institute of Physics and the Bar Associations of Alameda County, Los Angeles County, Contra Costa County, San Francisco, San Diego and Santa Barbara. For his achievements, he is proud to have been recognized as the Pro Bono Attorney of the Year by the Contra Costa County Bar Association and a recipient of the Wesley S. Mittman Bible Prize and the Engineering Award from General Electric.
