With an aptitude for history and law since her formative years, Ms. Wood went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in political science and a Master of Art in history from the University of Texas at Austin. While working on a PhD, she recalls the process became cumbersome and totally focused on her dissertation. At this point, Ms. Wood wanted to try an alternative route, leading her to attain a Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s Law School in 1982. Since 2015, she has worked in private practice, where she specializes in appellate and environmental law, as well as family issues and wills. Ms. Wood presently maintains membership with the International Association of Women Judges and the National Association of Women Judges.

In the earlier years of her career, Ms. Wood served as a staff attorney for the Third Court of Appeals, as an administrative law judge at the State Agency and as an administrative law judge at the State Office of Administrative Hearings. Alongside her primary roles, she had also spent time as a board member of the Lawyer Referral Service of Central Texas. Ms. Wood considers her career highlights to be her years with the Appellate Court and being appointed master administrative law judge for the Louisiana Association for Justice. From her own experiences, her advice to aspiring legal professionals is to listen carefully and think critically. Looking toward the future, Ms. Wood aims to slow down in her professional work and take time for international travel, particularly to Norway, China, New Zealand and Australia.
